If you already know your password and want to reset it

Click on Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in. Under Password option, select the Change button and follow the given steps

Method 1:

Change or Set a Password in Windows 10

  • Click on the Start option at the bottom left corner of your screen.
  • Click on Settings and Select Accounts
  • Select the Sign-in options from the menu.
  • Click on Change option under Change your account password.
  • To change your password, you will have to sign in with your current Microsoft account password. Enter your password in the box. Click on Sign in.
  • Microsoft would then send you a new code to change your password through the phone number that has been associated with your account. to verify your phone number, Enter the last four digits and Press Enter.
  • Then Enter the received code.
  • Enter your old password to the directed page and then type in a new password. Re-enter the new password and Press Enter.

Method 2:

Reset your account password

  • Select the ‘Reset password’ link under your username on the login screen.
  • Answer your security question.
  • Then enter a new password. It will be saved as your new password.
  • If you’re signed in to your Microsoft account you can press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then click ‘Change a password’ from the pop-up screen. Enter the name of the account whose password you want to change, and enter a new password.

Method 3:

Use the elevated command prompt

  • Click on Start and, in the search bar, type “cmd”. Right-click on the first entry, then click on ‘Run as administrator’.
  • Type the following phrase, replacing “account” with your account name and “password” with the new password you want to use: “net user account password”
  • press ‘Enter’ and close Command Prompt when you’re done

Method 4:

  • Boot from the Windows 10 DVD. Make sure that your PC setup is configured to boot from a DVD and that UEFI and Secure Boot are both disabled.
  • Press the SHIFT + F10 keys simultaneously to open a command prompt.
  • Then replace the file utilman.exe with cmd.exe. Before you do this, make sure that you make a copy of utilman.exe so that you can restore it later when required. Note that you can only restore this file if you boot again from the Windows DVD. Windows 10 is most of the times installed on drive D: if you boot from a DVD, you can verify this with “dir d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.” If the system can’t find utilman.exe, try other drive letters.
  1. move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak
  2. copy d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
  • Now replace utilman.exe with cmd.exe
  • After you have replaced utilman.exe successfully, you can remove the DVD and restart your Windows 10 installation:
  • On the Windows 10 sign-in page, click the Utility Manager icon.
  • Since you replaced the Utility Manager with the cmd.exe, a command prompt would open.
  • Now add a new user with the command below. You also need to add the user to the administrator group so that you regain full control of your Windows installation. Replace with your chosen account name. Note that the account name must not already exist on this Windows installation. Don’t get distracted by the Windows 10 screen saver
    net user /add
    net localgroup administrators /add
  • Add a new user by adding the user to the administrator group.
  • Click on the screen to make the sign-in page appear again. Your new account would show up now, and you can sign in without a password.
  • You now can have access to the files associated with your Microsoft account in the C:\Users folder.
  • If you have worked with a local account rather than Microsoft account, you can reset your password in Computer Management.
  • Right-click on the Start button, select Computer Management, and navigate through Local Users and Groups. Right-click your local account and click on Set Password.

Method 5:

  • Select the Start option > Settings > Sign-in options > Update your security questions.
  • Make sure you’re signed in with your local account.
  • In the search box , type create password reset disk, and then choose Create a password reset disk from the results.
  • In the Forgotten Password option, click on Next.
  • Type your current password and click on Next. and select Finish.

Method 6:

Reset your password with PCUnlocker

  • PCUnlocker is a self-contained boot image that you can run from either a CD or a USB flash drive.
  • After booting you can see all local accounts of your windows.
  • Select your local account and click on reset password.

Method 7:

Reset Windows 10 Password using MSDart

  • MSDart (Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset) is an application available for Microsoft volume customers. Download it and then and create a bootable media DVD or USB
  • Insert the media in to your device and boot to media
  • Click on locksmith.
  • Now select your local user account and enter a new password.
  • Click on next.
  • Restart your system and log in.

Method 8:

Lazesoft Windows 10 Password Reset Tool

  • Download the Lazesoft password recovery tool and open it.
  • Click on Burn Bootable CD/USB Disk
  • Click on Please select the windows version of the target machine(Machine you want to reset the forgotten password)
  • Select Windows 10 32 bit / 64 bit and then click on next.
  • Select the media you want to create, click on CD/DVD or USB then select which drive that media is on and click start.
  • Insert the above created media into the device you want to recover the password for and power the device on and boot to that media.
  • Highlight Lazesoft Live CD and hit enter from the pop up screen
  • Select Reset Windows Password and click on next.
  • Click Yes on the promoted window.
  • Select the windows 10 system you want to recover the password of and then select Reset Local Password and click next.
  • Select your local account from the pop-up window and then click next.
  • From the next screen click on reset / unlock.
  • Click OK and then click on finish
